WITNESSES
Since many in our
culture are unfamiliar with the term, "commanding the elements," which
is well-known in shamanic traditions around the globe, Astrid and I felt
it might be helpful if we shared some of the eyewitness accounts of people
who experienced the various phenomena. We have been sent a number of
testimonials of various experiences, but felt that the four below would
be helpful and interesting.
Spontaneous Combustion (Fire)
In 1990, in the mountains of North Carolina, I witnessed Peter Calhoun go into Self-Combustion. He called in the spirits, asked for their help, and all of a sudden his sweater that he was wearing seemed to catch on fire. As you can imagine I was quite shocked and thought that I should act to help him–but then I noticed that it wasn’t the sweater itself that was burning. The flame was spreading and it began to go upward and around him. I realized that this was not dangerous to him and I just sat there taking it all in. We all realized that this was a spiritual experience; I remember Peter saying several times, “The fire is not burning me.” And all I could do was to simply sit there and watch in utter amazement. I recall that Peter’s sweater was not burned at all. Although Peter’s clothing was unharmed, there were a couple of burn spots in his living room.

Thunderstorms from the Sky
We were at Peter Calhoun’s workshop and we were learning how to combine the medicine wheel and the four directions to bring about relief from a severe drought that we were experiencing. Despite the weather forecast for no rain, THE NEXT DAY WE SAW THE NEWS THAT A RAIN WEATHER FRONT CAME UP FROM NOWHERE. A storm came over the whole region into Washington, D.C. and flooded some government buildings and took down a tree that Teddy Roosevelt planted. There were 25 of us that witnessed this at the workshop combining nature and intent.

Fire from the Earth
In the late 1980s on a retreat in Canyonlands, Utah with Peter Calhoun, I witnessed a fire start by Spontaneous Combustion out of nowhere. A number of people in the group were gathering wood for a fire for our sweat lodge. There was no match, smudge stick or anything else to start a fire it just went into Spontaneous Combustion. As we were watching in amazement, another two piles of wood started on fire. It was something I had never seen before and have never seen since. Other miraculous events have occurred when I have been with Peter. I have no explanation; I just know they really happened.

Parting of the Storm
During my first vision quest with you [Peter] in Canyonlands, UT, I believe it wa
May, 2004, I was amazed at the way you controlled the weather. I remember it rained
for two days solid, and we needed to go out and find our "quest" site. You said a
little prayer, asking for relief from the driving rain. I remember walking about a
mile out from the campsite with Roger, we both looked back at the sky and saw a "V."
The rain had parted in a perfect "V" shape around our campsite. You could still see
the rain pouring on either side of us, but we were hiking in a very light mist.
On my second vision quest with you, in the Townsend, TN, area, I believe it was May
of 2005, I was surprised by a couple of things. We were all in the clearing
surrounded by tall pines. There were no clouds in the sky, and you spoke about how
Rolling Thunder would sometimes make his presence known to you. Immediately, there
was a loud crack of thunder, as if lightning had just struck our site. I ducked
first, then looked up to see what happened — not a cloud in the sky. There was no
more thunder for the rest of the day.
